Marrow App Terms and Conditions

The Marrow app is a door into the Marrow Sanctuary community. These terms describe who may use it, how we ask you to be once you are inside, and what happens when that is not honored.

There is nothing to arrange in the app. It signs you in to what you already have access to, and it shows you the community spaces, the guided audio, the recordings, and the gatherings. Anything to do with how you joined sits elsewhere, in the separate agreement you accepted when you joined.

We have written this to be read. If a line is unclear, write to us and we will explain it in plain words.

01   Who these terms are between

The Marrow app is run by Luminous Ground, led by Charon Normand-Widmer, LMSW, from Livonia, Michigan. In these terms, we and us mean Luminous Ground. You means the person signed in to the app.

These terms govern your use of the app and nothing else. How you came to have access is handled outside the app.

By signing in and using the app, you accept these terms. If you do not accept them, please do not use the app.

02   Who may use the app

The app is for adults. Some material inside it touches intimacy, the body, grief, and trauma, and it is written for grown people who choose it.

  • You must be 18 or older to sign in and to be present in the community spaces.
  • You must be eligible to use the app, which means your place in the community is current and was arranged separately on the website.
  • One person, one account. The app is for you, not for a household, a study group, or a team.
  • Sign in with your own details. Do not let another person use your account, and do not use anyone else's.
  • If we learn that an account belongs to someone under 18, we close it.

03   What the app is, and what it is not

The app gives you access to community content. That means the community spaces, guided audio practices, recordings of gatherings, written guides, and announcements from Charon.

The app is not therapy. It is not counseling. It is not medical advice. Using it does not make Charon your therapist, and it does not create a clinical relationship with her or with anyone else here, whatever licenses they hold. What you find inside is educational and experiential, and it is general by nature. It is not built around your history, your diagnosis, or your situation.

The app is not a crisis service. Nobody is watching the community spaces around the clock, and a post is not a way to reach help quickly.

If you are in crisis, or thinking about harming yourself or someone else, call or text 988, the Suicide and Crisis Lifeline. Call 911. Go to the nearest emergency room. Please do that first, and tell us afterward if you want to.

Keep your own licensed care in place. Nothing in the app is a substitute for it.

04   The app on your device, and where you got it

You got the Marrow app from Apple's App Store or from Google Play. Those companies are not part of these terms. These terms are between you and Luminous Ground, and we are the ones answerable for the app and for what is inside it.

Apple and Google have no duty to keep the app working or to answer questions about it. Bring those to us, at the address at the end of this document. If anyone says the app itself uses their work without permission, that is ours to answer, not theirs. If you use the app on an Apple device, Apple may enforce these terms against you as a third party who benefits from them.

Use the app within Apple's rules or Google's rules, whichever one applies to you, and within United States law. That includes the rules the United States sets about where its software may be used and about the people and places it restricts.

The app needs a current device and an internet connection. It updates itself from time to time, and some of those updates are needed for it to keep working.

05   Your account and your login details

Your account is the lock on the door of a room where people say true things. Treat it that way.

  • Keep your login details private. They are yours alone.
  • Anything done from your account is treated as done by you.
  • Write to us promptly if you think someone else has reached your account, or if a device with the app on it goes missing.
  • Keep the email address on your account current. It is how we reach you.
  • Sign out on shared or borrowed devices.
  • We may ask you to confirm who you are before we restore access to an account.

06   How we ask you to be here

Marrow works because people can be honest in it. That only holds while everyone tends the same conditions. None of this is complicated.

  • Speak for yourself. Share your own experience rather than diagnosing, correcting, or fixing someone else.
  • Read the room before you reply. A person posting something raw usually wants to be heard, not advised.
  • Consent language and content notes come with the heavier material. You may skip any practice, leave any gathering, and answer nothing.
  • What another member shares is theirs. Ask before you quote it, even inside the app.
  • If a post lands badly, bring it to Charon or to the people who help tend the space, rather than arguing it out in the thread.
  • Disagreement is welcome here. Contempt is not.

07   What is not allowed

This list is the line. Crossing it puts your access at risk, and the section on pausing or ending access explains what follows.

  • Harassment, threats, intimidation, hate speech, slurs, or unwanted romantic or sexual attention toward any member.
  • Screenshots, recordings, or transcripts of community spaces, gatherings, or another member's words.
  • Repeating what a member shared to anyone outside Marrow, in any form, including retellings with the names taken out.
  • Posting another person's private information, whether they are a member or not.
  • Advertising, recruiting, promoting an outside business or program, or approaching members about something unrelated to Marrow.
  • Pretending to be someone else, including Charon, or misrepresenting professional credentials.
  • Giving clinical, diagnostic, or medical direction to another member.
  • Scraping, bulk downloading, automated collection, or any other attempt to gather member information.
  • Probing or working around the security of the app, or reaching for parts of it that are not yours.
  • Copying, republishing, or passing on material from inside the app.
  • Uploading anything unlawful, anything sexual involving a minor, malware, or content that encourages self-harm.
  • Sharing your login details, or using the app on behalf of a person who is not eligible to use it.

08   What you post, and how it is shown

You keep ownership of everything you post. Your words, your photos, your voice notes, your art. They stay yours, and nothing here takes them from you.

By posting, you give Luminous Ground permission to store your post, show it to other members inside the app, include it in the community spaces and the views where recent posts appear, and keep it in routine backups so it is not lost. That permission covers displaying your post to the people you meant it for, and nothing else. We do not put member posts on the public website, we do not use them anywhere outside the app, and we do not use them to train models or other automated systems.

You may delete your own posts whenever you want. Deleting takes the post out of the app. It cannot reach into what another member has already read, remembered, or replied to, so write with that in mind.

When you post something, you confirm it is yours to post. Do not upload work, images, or recordings belonging to someone else without their permission.

If you believe something posted in the app uses your work without your permission, write to us with enough detail to find it. We will look, and we will take it down where that is right.

We may take down content that breaks these terms, and we may do it without notice when the safety of the space calls for it.

09   Charon's material and the Marrow name

Everything else in the app belongs to Luminous Ground or to the people who allow us to use it. That includes the guided audio, the recordings of gatherings, the written guides and prompts, the images, the Marrow name, the Marrow mark, and the design of the app itself.

Your access is personal and cannot be handed to anyone else. You may listen, read, and use this material for your own practice, for as long as you are eligible to use the app.

You may not copy it out, republish it, post it elsewhere, send files to people outside Marrow, or use any of it as input to train a model or any other automated system. Nothing in these terms transfers ownership of this material to you.

10   What stays inside the app

What is said inside Marrow stays inside Marrow. Names, stories, and disclosures stay where they were shared. This is the promise every member makes to every other member on the way in, and it is the reason the room holds.

Be clear about what that promise is. It is an agreement between people, held seriously, and enforced by the loss of access when it is broken. It is not legal privilege. Nothing posted in a community space is protected the way a conversation in a therapy room is protected. Charon is present in the app as a community leader, not as your therapist, so what you write here is not covered by clinical confidentiality.

Share what you are ready to have read by the other members present. If something is too tender for that, it belongs with your own care provider instead.

Charon is licensed in Michigan, and some duties follow that license into every room she stands in. If something in the app suggests that a child or a vulnerable adult is being harmed, Michigan law may require her to report it. We say so here so that it is never a surprise.

If something shared suggests that a person is in danger, we may act on it, including contacting emergency services. We would rather be awkward than quiet.

11   Your information

What the app collects about you, why it collects it, and how long it is kept are set out in the Marrow Privacy Policy. You can read it in the app, and it is part of what is agreed between us.

The short version: the app collects what it needs to sign you in and to show you the community spaces. We do not hand member information to outside companies to market to you, and we do not use what you write to train models or other automated systems.

12   Pausing or ending access

You can stop using the app whenever you want. Write to us if you would like your account closed, and we will close it.

We can pause or end access to the app when conduct here calls for it. Where it makes sense, we speak with you first and give you a chance to change course. Where someone's safety is at stake, we act straight away.

  • Behavior on the list of what is not allowed.
  • Carrying another member's words outside the app.
  • Conduct that makes the space unsafe for someone, whether it happens here or elsewhere.
  • Warnings that are repeated and change nothing.
  • Attempts to reach parts of the app that are not yours, or to sign in as another person.
  • An account that is no longer eligible to use the app.

13   When an account closes

When an account closes, the app stops opening and the community spaces are no longer yours to enter. What you already posted may stay where other members have read it. If you want your posts taken down, take them down before you go, or write to us and we will help.

A few things outlive the account. What stays inside the app stays inside it, whether you are still here or not. The limits of our responsibility and the Michigan law section carry on as well.

14   What we cannot promise, and the limits of our responsibility

The app is provided as it stands. We work to keep it running, current, and correct. We cannot promise it will be available without interruption, without errors, or without the occasional loss of data. Features change as the community grows, and some of what is inside today may look different later.

Content posted by other members is theirs. We do not review it before it appears, and we do not vouch for it. Something another member tells you is their view, not ours, and not advice from a clinician who knows you.

To the fullest extent the law allows, Luminous Ground, Charon Normand-Widmer, and the people working with them are not responsible for loss or harm arising from your use of the app, from anything you read or hear in it, from the conduct of another member, or from an interruption in access. Some of these limits are not permitted everywhere. Where that is true, they apply only as far as the law allows.

If a claim is brought against us because of something you posted, something you did in the app, or a part of these terms you broke, you agree to take responsibility for it and to stand behind us, as far as the law allows.

Use your own judgment, and keep the professionals who know you in the loop.

15   Michigan law, and changes to these terms

These terms are governed by the law of the State of Michigan, without regard to its conflict of laws rules. If something between us cannot be settled directly, it belongs in the state or federal courts located in Wayne County, Michigan, and you agree to that venue.

Before anything formal, write to us. Most things resolve in an email. We ask for thirty days to work it through with you.

If a court finds that part of these terms cannot stand, that part is set aside and the rest holds. If we do not act on something straight away, we have not given up the right to act on it later. These terms and the Marrow Privacy Policy are the whole of what is agreed between us about the app.

If Luminous Ground ever changes shape, these terms can move with it. Your side of them stays yours, and cannot be handed to anyone else.

We may update these terms as the app changes. When we do, we post the updated version in the app with a new effective date. For meaningful changes, we tell members inside the app and by email, at least fourteen days ahead where we can.

Using the app after a change takes effect means you accept the updated terms. If you do not accept them, stop using the app and write to us.

Questions about these terms, a report about another member's conduct, or a request to close your account: write to [email protected].
